Understanding the Structure of Fulton County Government

Fulton County is managed by a 7-member Board of Commissioners, each of whom serve four-year terms. Six of these members are elected by district, while the seventh is elected county-wide. Every year, the Board of Commissioners elects a vice-president from among its members. Residents of Fulton County have access to more than 40 departments that provide a variety of services.

These departments are overseen by either the county manager or elected or appointed officials. The Board of Commissioners is responsible for setting the budget and determining the tax rate for Fulton County. They also set policies and regulations that affect the county's residents. The board also appoints a county manager who is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the county. The county manager is responsible for hiring and managing staff, preparing the budget, and implementing policies and regulations set by the Board of Commissioners. The county manager also works with other elected officials to ensure that services are provided in an efficient and effective manner. The Board of Commissioners also appoints a number of other officials, including a county attorney, a county auditor, and a county treasurer.

These officials are responsible for providing legal advice, auditing financial records, and collecting taxes. In addition to these elected and appointed officials, Fulton County also has several departments that provide services to its residents. These departments include public safety, health and human services, public works, parks and recreation, and economic development. Fulton County's government structure ensures that residents have access to the services they need while also providing accountability and oversight. The Board of Commissioners is responsible for setting policies and regulations that affect the county's residents, while the county manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the county.
